Meet Daniel Fogg, our International Gator, Commonwealth Bronze Medalist and 2012 Olympic Swimmer. Gator Proud are we!
Daniel Fogg started his swimming career at the Borough of Waltham Forest Swimming Club and eventually became club captain, achieving County Records and County Golds in both individual events and as a member of the club's very successful Senior Boys Relay Team.
Daniel broke onto the International scene at the 2005 European Junior Championships in Budapest, competing over 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle for a British Team that also featured other now successful swimmers such as Robbie Renwick, Fran Halsall and Hannah Miley. After narrowly missing out on the British Team for Beijing in 2008, Daniel won Gold at the British Championships in the 1500m in 2010 to secure his senior long course championship debut at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Dehli, winning 1500m freestyle Commonwealth Bronze.
Daniel studied Sports Science at Loughborough University and continues to train at Loughborough today although remains a member of BWFSC. He is a lifelong Tottenham Hotspur fan and when he’s not training, competing or watching the Spurs, he’ll be relaxing watching a movie at home or at the cinema.
In March 2012 Daniel swam under the 15 minute mark for the first time in the 1500m freestyle winning Gold at the British Championships 2012 Trials to secure his place in the GB Team at the 2012 Olympics in London where after having a great swim in the heats, qualified for the Olympic 1500m final and came in 8th overall.
As well as competing in the pool, Daniel has also moved into the Open Water and finished 5th in the 10k Open Water Olympic event at London 2012.
In April 2013 we are also very proud to announce that Daniel won the FINA 10k Marathon World Cup Gold Medal in Mexico in a time of 1hour, 56 minutes, 38.10 seconds, ahead of Germany’s Olympic 2012 silver medallist Thomas Lurz - which just goes to show that there is nothing greater than a Gator!
