Essex C Block 2009

 Our Gators had a very successful Block 'C' of the Essex Championships at Braintree. Elliott Hill (15) lead the way with 2 golds for the 400m and 1500m free in which Alex Keating (15) came second, Alex also got a bronze for 400m free.   Stephanie Malcolm (13) fancied a medal of each colour winning gold in an Event Best Time and NQT of 2:20.64 secs for the 200m backstroke, she also got silver for 200IM and bronze in 200m Breaststroke. Elizabeth Hare (13) also got an Event Best Time of 18:02.86 secs winning gold in the 1500m free closely followed by Poppy Hill (13) in second place, Elizabeth also won  bronze in 200IM. Tommy Willis took the boys 12yrs 1500m free gold medal while Amrita Robertson (10) took gold in 400m IM and bronze in 200m Breaststroke. Alex Jameson (17) came first in the 400m free with an NQT of 4:02.19 secs with Reece Barclay (17) coming third. Arjun Robertson (12) and Greg Summers (15) both got a bronze medal apiece for the 200m IM and 100m Breast. There were also some good P.Bs from Nathan Leong, Sanaa Akbar, Ella Augustin, Joshua Burcombe, Oliver Burling, Eris Crawford, Alistair France, Niall Gandy and David Hare.

Essex B Block 2009

Gator success continued into the second week end of the Essex County Championships with swimmers picking up medals and spectacular personal best times (PB's). Leading the medal haul this time was 13 year old Stephanie Malcolm with an impressive 2 golds in the 200m free and 100m backstroke and 2 silvers for the 100m IM and 400m freestyle, close by was 10 year old Amrita Robertson with 2 golds and one silver in the 100m IM, 200m backstroke and 200m freestyle. Also picking up two gold medals was Elizabeth Hare for the 400m and 800m freestyle, as well as two bronze medals for the 200m free and 100m IM. Along with Elizabeth, the Gators once again established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the distance events. No fewer than seven swimmers took medals and top 6 places in the 800m freestyle. Elliott Hill picked up gold, Tommy Willis and Sanaa Akbar silver, (and silver for the 400m IM and 200m free respectively), Poppy Hill and Reece Barclay (34 sec PB) bronze and Alexander Jameson (21 sec PB) 4th. Alexander also touched home, in a personal best time, for gold in the 100m backstroke after entering the final as second seed. Other finalists included Alex Keating and Arjun Robertson. Also swimming were Ella Augustin, Joshua Burcombe, Oliver Burling, Eris Crawford, Niall Gandy, David Hare, Emma Hasler, Nathan and Rachel Leong, Nicholas Osman and Matthew Whyman

 
Essex A Block 2009
essexa2009.jpgThe Gators have started their Essex County Championship campaign for 2009 in winning style.  At the first week-end of the competition 10 year old Amrita Robertson led the medal haul with three golds and one bronze for the 50m freestyle, butterfly, breaststroke and backstroke respectively.  For the boys, Alexander Jameson brought home medals in all his races, nabbing two golds and one silver for the 50m freestyle, butterfly and backstroke. Also picking up gold medals were Stephanie Malcolm, backstroke and freestyle, Nicholas Osman, 50m freestyle, and Nathan Leong, 50m breaststroke.  Nicholas also won silver and bronze in the backstroke and butterfly 50m sprints Other medalists included Rachel Leong, one silver and two bronze, Reece Nicholls and Greg Summers one silver medal apiece, and Saana Akbar with one bronze medal.  Finishing just outside the medals, but making the finals, were Joshua Burcombe, Catherine Demont, Nicola Farmer, Alistair France, Naill Gandy, Alex Keating, Arjun Robertson and Tommy Willis. Meanwhile in the Relay competition, the Gators teams were also picking up the medals.  The men's team won gold for the 4x100m freestyle and picked up bronze in the 4x200m free.  The women's quartet won silver in the 4x100m freestyle relay and bronze for both the 4x200m free and the 4x100m medley relay. The boys' team was also in action picking up bronze for the 4x50m freestyle relay.  13/2/09
