Chief Coach
Job Description

Mike Bush

mikebush.jpgMike Bush is an ASA Coach (Level 4), ASA Club Coach, ASA Advance Teacher and has a total of over 20 years of involvement in professional swim coaching, having joined BWFSC in 2002 from Thurrock Swimming Club where he was head Coach for 10 years.  He is a member of the London Swimming Coaches Committee, has attended the Collegiate Coaching Conference in America and was 'Visting Coach' at Cincinnati University and NY State University where he worked with their coaching program.  He is also part of British Swimming 2012 World Class programme for potential to produce world ranked swimmers.  Mike has also attended various BSCTA Conferences and Seminars.

Accomplishments

  • Coached competitive swimmers to age of 22 competing at County, Regional and National Level.
  • Coached in excess of 12 swimmers to a total of 35 medals at National Championships.
  • Coached 6 Relay Teams to National Championships achieving 2 Gold Medals.
  • Over the past 5 years has coached an average of 35% of his squad swimmers to National Age/Youth Championships, senior swimmers to top 20 rankings.
  • Coached 4 swimmers to eventual International Selection with the Great Britain Team.

Assistant Chief Coach
Job Description

Tony Hills

Tony lives in Grays, Essex and is married with two children, a boy and a girl.  He has been involved in swimming for over forty years competing at club, county and district level.  He also competed at the English Colleges Championships and later, as a Masters Swimmer won numerous medals at county level.  Tony started teaching at the age of 18, working for a number of coaches over the years.  He progressed to coaching when his children started swimming. Both his children competed at club, county and district level and his daughter progressed to national level and before retiring from swimming swam on the Grand Prix circuit and was eventually chosen to represent Scotland whilst at University.  Tony is an ASA qualified teacher and is also a qualified ASA club coach and has spent much of his coaching years working with Mike Bush at Thurrock S.C. and more recently Borough of Waltham Forest Swimming Club.  Although Tony works full time as an engineer for Proctor and Gamble he is very committed to competitive swimming and expects the same commitment from his swimmers.

Teaching Manager - Little/Junior Gators
Job Description

Shayne is a keen swimmer herself having competed both for Edmonton Phoenix Swimming Club and Borough of Waltham Forest Swimming Club as a child.  As a keen sports person, Shayne also represented the London Borough of Enfield in the Triathalon Team at the London Youth Games at Crystal Palace.  Having over 10 years teaching experience, Shayne has previously taught at Leyton Leisure Lagoon, Waltham forest College, Newham Leisure Centre, and Greens.  Her experience stretches from teaching mother and baby groups to children and adult lessons.  As well as her ASA teaching qualification Shayne also holds a premlinary swimming Teachers Ccertificate for teaching people with disabilities.

JENNA BROWN 

Teaching Assistant
Job Description

Jenna been swimming with the Borough of Waltham Forest Swimming Club since she was child.  Even though Jenna has now retired from the competitive swimming she still loves the sport and has moved into teaching to pass on her knowledge and experiences to the Little and Junior Gators.

VOLUNTEER QUALIFIED TEACHERS

Mick has been teaching children to swim at the Gators on a Voluntary basis for many many years.  He is a Level 2 Teacher and an ASA Official.   He has seen his own children go through to National Level at the Club and now coaches the top end of the Junior Gators to prepare them for competition.

TONY WHYMAN

Tony has been involved in the club for many years having served on the Committee as Chairman for several years and now continues support the club in a teaching capacity.

IAN BEACH

Ian, has been with the Gators since he was a child, having swam competitively for the club and still swims with the Masters today.  Ian helps out on Club Nights coaching the swimmers before joining the Masters Session.
