Gators Learn to Swim Programme PDF Print E-mail

OUR LEARN TO SWIM PROGRAMME AIMS TO CREATE A COMMUNITY IN WHICH SWIMMERS OF ALL ABILITIES ARE INSPIRED TO ACHIEVE THEIR FULL POTENTIAL

We follow the National Plan for Teaching Swimming.  This is an Accredited Plan recommended by the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) whereby children of all abilities are given the opportunity to develop their water skills and confidence.

Children are assessed on their first visit and then placed in a level which suits their current skills and confidence in the water.  Sometimes this mean bypassing the beginner groups if appropriate and fast tracking into a higher level

ASA Incentive Awards provide an excellent means of motivating swimmers of all abilities and are a simple way of measuring progress.   Within the plan there are 7 Awards to achieve.

We take children from the age of 5 years and upwards

To secure your place* in our Little Gators Programme please register your child's details with the BWFSC  Membership Secretary

            *subject to places being available

The Gators Learn to Swim Team are keen swimmers themselves having many years of swimming experience between them, all having swam competitively for the Club at some point in their lives.  They are enthusiastic, full of encouragement and keen for the young swimmer to do well.

Children are constantly assessed throughout the weeks and when they are considered ready, move to the next level thus ensuring natural progression.

Swimming Lessons are one half hour session per week throughout the year (except Bank Holidays and Christmas).  This ensures that swimmers retain what they have learned which promotes speedy progression throughout the various levels.

When swimmers move on from Level 7 (Little Gators) an element of competitive training is also introduced where we start to concentrate more on stroke technique, tumble turns, diving, and eventually introducing lane swimming to start to build upon stamina.

This is when the real fun begins, and there are opportunities for swimmers to start competing in their first races, wear the club's colours and represent the club at galas - this is a very exciting and enjoyable time for both the swimmer and the parent!

At this point the swimming sessions increase to two half hour sessions per week at Pool and Track (Monday and Friday_ and one full hour session per week on Wednesdays at Larkswood Leisure Centre to build upon stamina.

Eventually the two half hour sessions at Pool and Track will increase to hour sessions as swimmers move from one group to another and eventually swim regularly on Club Nights in the lanes (3 x 1 hour sessions per week -mininmum requirement 2).

Swimming continues throughout the year (except Bank Holidays and Christmas).  This ensures that swimmers retain what they have learned which promotes speedy progression throughout the various levels.

Where do we swim?    What does it cost?
