Two swimmers from the Gators took part in the GB National Deaf Swimming Championships at Loughborough University.
Both swimmers also took part in a swim camp during the weekend. Daniel Voss (23) who competed in the International Category took Gold in the Mens Open 50 Breaststroke and also took home 2 Bronze medals in the 50m and 100m freestyle events.
Matthew Whyman (12) competed in the National Category, he gained 4 Gold medals in the 12/13 years 50 Backstroke, 50m Freestyle, 50m Fly and 50 Breasttroke. He also took another 4 Gold medals in the Open 200 I.M., 100m Freestyle, 100m Breasttroke and 100m Backstoke. Both swimmers were proud of their achievements (as we all are - Gator Proud!) and are now looking forward to the next National Event March 2009, where they are both hoping for selection in the Deaflympics next summer in Taipei.

Success at Olympic Trials for Gators!!! |
|
A fantastic swim by our GB Gator, Daniel Fogg (picture from left to right, Allen Lindenberg, Alex Jameson, Daniel Fogg), in the heats of the 1500m freestyle at this years British Swimming Championships (Olympic Trials) in Sheffield secured him an Olympic Qualifying Time and the chance to compete for one of the remaining 1500m place in the British Team competition at this years Olympics in Bejing this summer. After an incredibly exciting and close race, Daniel touched in second place missing out on Olympic selection by less than 2 seconds. Although bitterly disappointed at not making the Olympic Team (as we all are at the club for Dan), Daniel also had to be pleased with his fantastic achievement as this was not only an Olympic Qualifying Time but also a 30 second PB smashing the County Records for the 800m and 1500m freestyle. Earlier in the week Daniel had come 5th in the 400m freestyle in a new Essex County Record Time. Daniel currently attends Loughborough University so from all at the Gators Dan, please know that we are very very proud of you Daniel...keep on swimming for 2012 is not that far away!
Also competing at the Olympic Trials, Allen Lindenberg and Alex Jameson. Allen came 3rd in the 'B' final of the 1500m freestyle and Alex clocked a good PB in the 100m freestyle.
All 3 Gators were delighted with their swims and are looking forward to further international swims and Trials. Needless to say the Club is very proud of all their achievements.
